I just wanted to share a little bit more about my approach to rehab and helping people improve their health as it’s a little different than your typical Musculo-Skeletal Therapist & Personal Trainer.
A lot of people are dealing with ongoing aches and pains or more chronic conditions, in fact musculoskeletal conditions are the biggest complaint seen in the medical system.
Chances are you have or have had an issue as well.
Maybe you’ve seen a physio or other health professional for help and you get some temporary relief but the same things keep coming back.
Unfortunately this is all too common.
Pain is extremely complicated and there are a lot of factors that play into how we experience pain and dysfunction.
The conventional approach to viewing the body only in a biomechanical or biomedical model – that is only looking at specific tissues or mechanisms – is flawed.
Our bodies are complex systems with even more complex interactions. For a lot of ongoing or chronic issues, you need to look at the whole body and how other things like sleep, stress and nutrition affect the body, its ability to heal and recover and how it will perceive pain.
For example, there is very clear evidence that excess stress and poor sleep increase your chance of injury, increase the perception of pain and also reduce the bodies ability to heal.
Optimising sleep with good sleep hygiene or reducing stress through breathwork or adaptogens can often help people recover faster from injury or overcome their chronic issues.
From a nutrition perspective if you’re consuming inflammatory foods or not consuming enough nutrients like protein, you’re also going to have an increased perception of pain or a reduced ability to heal, respectively.
This is why it’s important to look at the body holistically when trying to overcome injuries or chronic health issues.
Most Allied Health and exercise professionals simply don’t have adequate knowledge in how these other important factors in life affect you. That is why at Myofunction, we have an incredible/extensive network that can help.
Having worked with countless individuals and thanks to my extended training and studies, I know first hand how all this affects injuries and rehab.
This is why I take a very holistic approach to working with my clients. This approach is often the missing component in not only rehab, but in improving and optimising your overall health and life.
See how we can help you with your rehab and overall health.
Yours in health,
Matthew Kaloutsis
